Ibero American audiovisual creators that focus on documentaries have characterized themselves for portraying strong and rich stories while seeking a constant rediscovery of the narrative and the cinematographic language. The Guadalajara International Film Festival provides a prominent space dedicated to the formation and practice of the documentary genre in order to serve the need of Ibero American creators that seek to tell and capture the diversity of cultures and socio-political restlessness of the region.

DocuLab Guadalajara is a documentary laboratory focused on the instruction and creative exchange between international experts, young talents and up-and-coming professionals.

DocuLab Guadalajara is our second documentary building laboratory. It will take place on March 16-19, 2010 and includes the following activities:

Laboratories

A professional will share experiences through hands-on practices and specific exercises, using proper elements and equipment in order to fine tune the students´ techniques. These laboratories are centered individually for production, cinematography, sound and post-production of documentaries. There will also be a dissection laboratory aimed to the narrative structure of the first or last cut of a documentary.

Some of the laboratories will include a small group of students who will focus on a specific process in the production of a documentary. Most of the activities will be for all selected students and of general interest.

Lectures

Prominent filmmakers with a vast experience in diverse forums and festivals will share their knowledge, experiences and practices related to the exploration and personal learning of the audiovisual language for documentaries. They will explain the techniques and methods they use in their work and present part of their work. Students have a dynamic participation where they can express their doubts in a series of questions and answers.

Discussion tables

World class directors, producers, editors, photographers, sound mangers and distributors of documentaries with singular backgrounds, cultures and creative trends will discuss techniques, methodology, information and practice over a particular theme. Between two to five professionals will dialogue. An expert will chair the discussion table and students will engage in a session of Q&A.

Special screenings

Screenings of documentaries in which the audience and directors can engage in a dialogue regarding each presentation.
